Frequently Asked Questions

Is your turmeric really pure? How do I know?

Because a government lab said so, not because we did. Our Lakadong turmeric was tested at the State Public Health Laboratory, Assam — an NABL-accredited facility — and came back at 9.53% curcumin against a legal minimum of 2.0%, with total starch at 45.44% against a 60% ceiling, and negative for both lead chromate and added synthetic colour.

Every figure, with sample and report references, is on our Lab Results page. Ask us and we will send the full reports.

Why is it more expensive than the turmeric in my supermarket?

Three reasons, and none of them are packaging.

The first is what is in the jar. A cheap turmeric can clear the 2.0% legal minimum for curcumin and be bulked with rice flour or maize starch up to 60%. Ours is single-ingredient at nearly five times that minimum. You are buying more turmeric per spoon, so you use less.

The second is where it comes from. Lakadong is a registered geographical indication grown on hill slopes in Meghalaya, dug by hand because machinery cannot work that terrain. It does not scale, which is exactly why it is good.

The third is glass. It costs more than a pouch and weighs more to ship, but ground spice is volatile and a sealed glass jar holds aroma in a way laminated plastic does not.

How long does a jar last once I open it?

Best before is 24 months from manufacture, but that assumes the jar stays sealed. Once opened, use it within about six months for full aroma. It will not go off after that — it will simply taste less of itself, which is the whole thing you paid for.

Keep it closed, out of direct sunlight, and away from the heat of the stove. Do not shake a wet spoon into the jar; moisture is what turns good spice into a clumped brick.

Does the turmeric stain?

Yes. Properly. That is what 9.53% curcumin does, and a turmeric that does not stain is telling you something about itself.

On hands it fades in a day or two. On plastic and light worktops it can be stubborn — wipe spills quickly rather than letting them sit, and use a wooden or steel spoon rather than plastic if you would rather not have a permanently yellow one.

Do you deliver to my pincode, and how long does it take?

We ship across India with Delhivery and dispatch within one working day. Metro cities usually take 3 to 5 working days from dispatch, other towns 5 to 8, and remote or hill districts 7 to 10.

Shipping is free above ₹999. Cash on delivery is available everywhere we ship, at no extra charge. Enter your pincode at checkout to confirm serviceability.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

If the seal is intact, yes — within 7 days of delivery, with return shipping at your cost.

If the seal is broken, no. Ground spice is a food product and once a jar is open we have no way to verify how it was stored, so reselling it would be unsafe. Every reputable food seller in India works this way.

If a jar arrives broken, leaking or wrong, that is a different matter entirely. Send us a photograph within 48 hours and we will replace or refund it, and we pay the return shipping.
